Marriage and Relationship Workshops Enhance the Readiness of Marine Corps Families

Marriage and long-term relationships are complicated and the challenges of a military lifestyle can place additional demands on a couple. When a Marine is wounded, ill or injured the strain on a relationship only increases. Marine Corps Community Services holds classes to help couples communicate and connect more effectively.

Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) is a one day workshop that helps couples communicate and connect more effectively. Participants learn and practice proven techniques. Key topics include: Relationship Risk Factors, Communication Danger Signs, Safety and Structure in Communication, and When Forgiveness Isn’t Easy.

Before “I Do” Marriage Foundation Workshop is a two-day workshop offered twice a month for couples planning to marry or those married for two years or less. This workshop covers a wide variety of topics and focuses on how each of these matters affects the marriage and the couple. Things such as communication, finances, expectations and roles, values and spirituality, personality, drugs and alcohol, resources, family, friends, in-laws, even sexuality and sensuality are all topics explored through this workshop.

Marriage Enrichment Workshop uses the P.R.E.P. approach to help couples learn the power of the floor to forever change the way you communicate when upset; how to effectively increase marital intimacy by decreasing the emotional and physical distance within your marriage; and gain a greater understanding of one another’s sexuality.

Special Compensation for Assistance with Activities of Daily Living

Some service members who are catastrophically wounded, ill or injured are now eligible for compensation designed to offset the economic burden primary caregivers incur when assisting them.

When a service member sustains a catastrophic injury or illness, a family member or close friend often takes on the role of caregiver, providing non-medical support for daily activities. These caregivers sometimes discontinue employment to care for their loved one, leading to a loss or reduction of income. Read more
